A move can turn into one long list of unfinished jobs. Finding boxes sits beside finding a home. Booking help sits beside sorting a drawer. When everything looks equally urgent, it’s difficult to begin.
Try making three lists instead: decide, arrange, and pack.
Under “decide,” put the choices that shape other work, such as timing or what furniture you expect to take. Under “arrange,” put the calls, bookings, and confirmations. Under “pack,” list small areas you can finish in one sitting.
Next, mark anything with a real deadline. If a date is uncertain, make confirming it a task of its own. This helps separate what feels pressing from what actually needs attention first.
Choose one item for today. Make it specific: “empty the bathroom cabinet” is easier to start than “declutter the house.” If you have help, hand over a complete task with a clear finish, such as labelling the packed kitchen boxes.
Keep a separate note for questions and ideas that don’t need an answer yet. You can return to them without carrying them around in your head.
The aim isn’t a perfect system. It’s a list that lets you see what matters next—and notice what you’ve already done.
